Macomb County · Michigan
In the middle of Macomb County between M-53 and Dequindre Rd — one of the fastest-growing communities in the MARK Z team’s five-county footprint.
Shelby Township is one of Macomb County’s largest and fastest-growing communities — roughly 35 square miles of charter township stretching from the Utica border at M-59 north past 26 Mile Road, with the M-53 freeway running straight through the middle. Organized in 1827, it stayed largely rural until the postwar decades; today it’s a full-built suburb of subdivisions, parks, and retail that still keeps pockets of woods and orchard country along its northern edge.
The headline amenity is Stony Creek Metropark: 4,461 acres of lake, beaches, boat rentals, golf, and miles of paved and mountain-bike trails anchoring the township’s northwest corner. River Bends Park adds hundreds of wooded acres along the Clinton River near Utica, and the restored Packard Proving Grounds on Van Dyke — where Packard tested cars on a banked concrete oval in the 1920s — gives the township one of Metro Detroit’s more unusual landmarks.
Housing here skews newer than most of Macomb County: brick colonials and split-levels from the 1980s–2000s in the central corridors, ranches and site condos throughout, and new construction still going in north of 24 Mile. Add Utica Community Schools — Michigan’s second-largest district, with Eisenhower High among its flagships — and a lower township tax bill than most neighboring cities, and it’s easy to see why Shelby Township is one of the MARK Z team’s busiest markets.

4,461 acres in the township’s backyard — a 500-acre lake with two swimming beaches, boat and bike rentals, golf, disc golf, and some of the region’s best mountain-bike and winter-sports terrain.
Michigan’s second-largest school district serves the township, with Eisenhower High School among the most decorated in Macomb County — a core reason families target Shelby Township.
A suburb built mostly since 1980: brick colonials, ranches, split-levels, and site condos, with active new construction still rising north of 24 Mile Road.
The restored 1927 Packard test facility on Van Dyke — Albert Kahn buildings and a storied straightaway — now hosts car shows, markets, and events year-round.
As a charter township, Shelby levies a lower municipal millage than most surrounding incorporated cities — a real difference on the annual tax bill for a comparable home.
M-53 runs through the township and M-59 anchors its southern edge — quick runs to Hall Road retail, Rochester, and the freeway network without living on top of any of it.
