Oxford Township Real Estate Market

Oxford, Michigan, includes both Oxford Township and the village of Oxford which are both Oakland County suburbs north of Detroit. Oxford is a more rural real estate market with a population of approximately 20,000 within its 35 square miles. For folks calling this picturesque community home, they’re just north of Rochester Hills and Auburn Hills providing easy access to a lot of great entertainment, dining and shopping options.

Oxford neighborhood residents are also close to great parks including the Bald Mountain State Recreation Area and Orion Oaks County Park which provide thousands of acres of wooded scenery, miles of trails, picnic and playground areas and much more to entice visitors. This doesn’t include the 500 acres of public parks located within Oxford itself.

Oxford is a growing area with new construction accommodating those who want to call this more rural place home. Amid the rolling hills and natural settings, with deer and other wildlife adding charm to the area, Oxford continues to be an inviting place to call home.

Oxford Township Historical Facts

Oxford didn’t start off with a great reputation. After a survey was conducted in 1812, the area was considered a swamp land where little if anything of value would grow. Considered not a worthy investment, Oxford remained unsettled for quite some time until a settler and fur trader decided to call it home. It then steadily began to grow and in 1839, Oxford became the legal name of the area. Railroad construction helped drive the economy and bring more residents to this community and more commerce was established.
Oxford was home to Brace Beemer whose voice became famous all over the nation as he was known as the Lone Ranger.

Oxford Township Community Amenities

If you’re looking to raise a family in a more rural setting where being outside amongst nature is preferred over sitting in front of the television then Oxford is an ideal place to call home. There are many lakes and wooded areas to explore and public parks situated in the nearby communities. Being close to Addison Oaks County Park, Orion Oaks County Park and Bald Mountain State Recreation Area provide great places for families to get together and enjoy some time outdoors.

• Downtown Oxford – The downtown Oxford neighborhood hosts many great activities and events throughout the year and it’s quite common to see holiday decorations along the main street area whether it’s for Christmas, Halloween or Independence Day. The downtown area also has concerts that are frequently attended by residents from all over.

• Oxford Hills Golf Course – For those looking to hit the links, the Oxford Hills Golf Course is a great place to spend a weekend morning with friends in the Oxford real estate market. Its highly-ranked 18-hole course was recently the 1st Place recipient of the Reader’s Choice Best of the Best. A charming fact about this course is that it has been owned by the same family since 1960.

Oxford Township – Small, Done Right

Oxford Township and the Village of Oxford have created a wonderful, safe and family-friendly place to call home. Oxford has a charming downtown area that recently became an official Oakland County Main Street Community.  With many stores, restaurants and activities throughout the year including concerts every Thursday night from May through September, the downtown area of Oxford is a great place to spend time with friends or family. A new library was recently constructed in Oxford and there is constant improvement without sacrificing its small town charm.

With its proximity to major cities like Auburn Hills, Rochester Hills and Waterford Township, residents of Oxford find that they are close to suburban life while still enjoying their tight-knit community.
