Chesterfield Township Historical Facts

Chesterfield Township was originally settled far back in the 1600s and changed control from the original French settlers to the British and then the Americans after the War of 1812. While there was some business, the neighborhood didn't see much action until the Grand Trunk Railroad came through toward the end of the Civil War. As business began to thrive, a post office was established for the community in 1875. Although it was a general law township, Chesterfield Township did not become a charter township until about 30 years ago in 1989.

Through the building up of lands along the water with little towns, Chesterfield continued to grow over the years and still remains a great place for new settlers to find a home.
