Bloomfield Hills Historical Facts

Bloomfield Hills, Michigan has its origins in the creation of Oakland County during the summer of 1820. Oakland County, which was mainly a large farming area, was split into two townships (Pontiac Township and Bloomfield Township).

It wasn't until the beginning of the 20th century that industry started to take over and there was a shift in the way the land was utilized. Many of Detroit's wealthy residents began buying up the land and from there, Bloomfield Hills transitioned from a settlement into a community.
