Commerce Township is considered an up and coming community due in part to highway M-5 being extended to Pontiac Trail. The lack of highway access has held Commerce back over the years. For those who love the water, but not the action of motorized watercraft, there are quiet waters No-Wake Lakes such as Bass Lake, Clark Lake, Tray Lake, Twin Suns Lake, and Cranberry Lake.

All sports Union Lake has a boat launch located right on busy Union Lake Rd. This site is usually packed to capacity on weekends during the summer. This is a pay to launch site. During the week, it may be half full of trailers. There are around 30 spots for trailers. With 466 acres, Union Lake is full of great fishing spots. Walleye, bass, and bluegill all can be caught on drop offs and near a sunken Island near the center of the lake.
