Buyer Tips

The process of moving, even a short distance, can be a daunting one. In all the excitement of selling your old home and purchasing another, you may have neglected to consider the sometimes extensive logistics. Here are a few things to consider before you even load the vans.
The period before move in day is actually a great time to complete any repairs and renovations you’ve decided to do on your new home. By giving workers a space devoid of furniture and knickknacks, you’ll make it more convenient for them, and you’ll avoid living with the dust and noise while the work is getting done. You also won’t have to worry about valuables getting damaged or stolen.
Before you move is also the time to take care of the details of the move with your utility providers. All your regular creditors (credit card companies, auto insurers, etc) will have to be updated with your new address. You’ll also want to inform your employer and make the trip to the secretary of state for an updated license.
If you own pets, you’ll have to look into how you’re going to transport them. For long distance moves, you may want to book a flight and fly with your pet, or even look into a professional pet transportation company.
Parents on the move will have already investigated the new school system extensively, so the process of getting familiar with the district and schools should be pretty painless. Make sure you register the kids in plenty of time so that they miss a minimal amount of lessons and don’t have as much to catch up on.
Finally, in the days and weeks approaching the big move, you’ll want to assemble a massive collection of boxes. Get more boxes than you think you’ll need – you’ll use them. Be sure to label them to allow for easy and organized unpacking.  With a little foresight and planning, you can make even the longest move flow like clockwork.
