Invest in Your Lake

Selling Tips

Walled Lake
An unexpected but significant factor to the value of a home is its surroundings. This is particularly true if you are situated on a lake or body of water. A polluted lake removes the appeal of scenic, and more expensive, lakefront property. There are some simple ways that you can protect your lake, and subsequently your property value.
For those situated on a lake, there are special considerations to keeping your surroundings beautiful. Fertilizers, in particular, are of special concern, due to their potential to pollute nearby lakes or rivers. The resulting runoff from these products can contaminate the water supply. Be sure to check with your city about regulations regarding the use of fertilizer in your area.
Pet waste is another consideration, especially for lakefront homeowners. Make sure you promptly clean up after and dispose of pet waste, for your benefit and for the benefit of those around you. You’ll also help protect your grass, not to mention your shoes!
It is also recommended to wash cars, boats, and other vehicles on grass, rather on cement. While this may seem counterintuitive, the soaps used for cleaning have the potential to enter nearby water sources if washed on hard, non-porous surfaces.
While most people would never intentionally be thoughtless about protecting the welfare of their home and surrounding neighborhood, sometimes it’s a good idea to have a little refresher course on special considerations for lakefront property. Hope this helps.
