Go Batty at Cranbrook this season!
Fun Local Events
Hi there! My name is Lisa Kiser, and I'm going to be blogging about some cool things to do around Michigan. There are a ton of things going on all the time, so I hope to cover a variety of events and activities to speak to everyone's interests. In the spirit of Halloween, this blog takes you behind the scenes of a bat.
Nothing says Halloween like a spooky bat, so why not learn more about these misunderstood night flyers this October? From now until January 4, 2009, visitors to the Cranbrook Institute of Science can enjoy the 5,000 square foot traveling exhibit that takes them into the lives of bats. Learn the ins, outs and upside downs of how bats think and function, as well as their impact on human life. Live bats are on display from 11am–4pm daily, as well as from 6-9pm on Fridays. The exhibit, titled “Bats: Myths and Mysteries,” is free with museum admission.
While at the museum, you’ll want to check out all the other exciting exhibits Cranbrook has to offer. The museum displays an extensive collection of natural history exhibits spanning the ages. Begin by traveling back in time to the Ice Ages and explore the lives of the Mastodons and other ancient creatures. Then journey through the woodlands, check out some rocks and minerals, or learn more about life’s essential element, water. Cranbrook is also well known for its state-of-the-art planetarium and observatory, so be sure to also stop by and take a peek while you’re there.
We’re fortunate to have such a cool place to take in science in a fun and interactive way right in our backyard. Now’s a great time to take a trip to Cranbrook for a batty fun time in October.
