Buying a Home? Use a Real Estate Agent

Monday, June 30th, 2008 at 10:51am. 423 Views, 0 Comments.

Many people think that selling a home is the only time that a real estate agent will come in handy. Of course, this is true to a certain extent but buyers can also hire an agent in order to work on their behalf. In fact, if you are buying a home you should definitely find a respectable real estate agent who has experience working with buyers.

What will you get out of hiring an agent when buying? The short answer to this question is simple: expertise. Your real estate agent will be able to find the homes that best suit your needs, while also helping with other areas such as negotiations. As you probably know, the real estate market in many parts of the United States is on the decline. In turn, foreclosures are on the rise. If this is not bad enough, many of these foreclosures, especially in some suburbs of Detroit, are being vandalized on a regular basis. This not only leaves these neighborhoods empty, but the homes left behind are no longer appealing to passer-bys.

Highland Park is one example of an area that is struggling mightily to keep its head above water. Several years ago new homes were offered at a price point of $130,000 to $155,000. To go along with this, they featured a rent to own program that was meant to attract first time buyers. Instead of this happening, the area has more or less died down. Michael Curry, a local

A recent article in Money magazine lists 5 new rules for today’s home buyers. After reading the article I found that I agree with all 5 of them.

New rule 1: DO NOT try to time the bottom of this market. We may be there or close already. The only way the experts know that we hit rock bottom is after the market has already started going up. A lot of good that will do you.

New rule 2: Mortgage rates are very attractive right now. Here’s what the mortgage experts say; “The 30-year, now at 6.1%, will likely reach mid-6% by December and 7% in 2009, says Celia Chen of Moody’s Economy.com.
